Dhenkanal: In yet another case of superstition, a minor girl was married to a stray dog as part of a tribal ritual to ward off bad luck at Debgansahi in Karagola gram panchayat of Dhenkanal district.
Reportedly, the tribals in the village consider the emergence of the first tooth on the upper jaw of a baby as inauspicious. Accordingly, any child whose first tooth emerged on the upper jaw is wed to a dog.
As per rituals, the wedding was held lavishly three days after Mage Parab – a tribal festival. It is believed that if they don’t perform the ritual, the child may face danger in the future.
