Bhubaneswar: A minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by an auto-rickshaw driver on the National Highway-16 near the Shikharpur in Cuttack. The driver reportedly threatened to set her ablaze by pouring petrol when she tried to raise her objections.
Though the incident occurred a week earlier on August 8, the matter came to the fore after the victim revealed everything to her family members and filed a complaint at Chauliaganj police station.
According to the complaint filed with Chauliaganj police on Sunday, the incident occurred when the minor girl and her friend were on their way to Badambadi from Jagatpur and asked the auto driver for water near Shikharpur. When the driver said he didn’t have water, the girl’s friend went to fetch some, and the driver allegedly took advantage of the situation by repeatedly touching her inappropriately.
When she resisted, the accused auto-driver allegedly threatened to douse her with petrol and burn her alive.
Based on the complaint filed by the victim, police started an investigation and conducted a medical examination of the victim.
Meanwhile, police arrested the accused auto-driver and started interrogating him.
