Jajpur: Police arrested a 60-year-old man for the alleged rape of a Class IX girl under the Mangalapur police limits of Odisha’s Jajpur district. The accused has been identified as Rabindranarayan Sahu (60), a shopkeeper in the village.
As per a complaint lodged by the girl’s family at the Mangalapur police station, she had gone to Rabindranarayan’s shop on Sunday morning to purchase chili powder. However, taking the advantage of the situation, the shopkeeper dragged her inside the shop forcefully and raped. He fled the spot after committing the crime, the complaint said.
As the girl did not return home after a long period of time, her worried mother visited the shop to enquiry about her. There she found her daughter lying unconscious on the floor. On returning home, the victim narrated her ordeal to the family members.
Soon the family members went to the Mangalapur police station and registered a complaint of rape against Rabindranarayan. Based on the complaint, the policestarted an investigation into the crime and arrested the accused shopkeeper.
According to the police, the accused will be forwarded to the court after his medical examination.
