Bhubaneswar: A minor girl was rescued by locals in the Saheed Nagar area of Bhubaneswar on Sunday after she reportedly fled her home in Sundarpada, alleging physical abuse by her parents.
The girl has been identified as Subhashree Sahoo, was spotted riding a bicycle alone and visibly distressed.
According to reports, a few auto-rickshaw drivers noticed her near Saheed Nagar and stopped to inquire. On learning about her situation, they immediately offered assistance.
The girl claimed she was regularly beaten by her parents for not completing household chores and had decided to leave home in order to seek refuge at her grandmother’s residence in Rasulgarh.
“My mother beat me. Both my parents hit me if I do not do the work they tell me. I do not want to go back home. I just want to stay with my grandmother in Rasulgarh Chhak. I know the way to her house,” she said tearfully.
Further investigation is underway.
