Bhubaneswar: A little girl died after being trampled by an elephant late at night in Saralia Chitrashul village of Singakhunta panchayat under Soro police limits.
According to the information, Nishikant Dehuri of the village was sleeping at home with his family. At this time, five to six elephants entered his backyard for eating coconuts plantation.
On hearing the noise, the family members woke up and chased the elephant away. However, one of those entered the house and trampled the kid.
The villagers showed up at Dehury’s house, chased away the elephant and rescued the baby girl. She was rushed to the local hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
A pall of gloom descended on the village following the tragedy. The locals demanded compensation for the family of the deceased and a solution to the issue of elephants entering the village.
