Kalahandi: In an unfortunate incident, a minor girl’s right hand got severed from her body after it got caught in the wheel of a moving motorcycle in Kalahandi district on Friday.
According to sources, the girl hailing from Mangalpur village under Jaypatna block was going to attend a marriage function of one of her relatives at Balasi village in Kesinga when the mishap took place. She was riding a pillion with her parents on the bike when her scarf got entangled in the wheel.
Instead of asking to stop the bike, the girl tried to pull the scarf from the wheel spokes on her own. In the process, the girl’s hand, along with the scarf, got caught in the rear wheel of the motorcycle.
By the time her parents found out what had happened, her arm was severed from her body. They stopped the bike to get the severed hand. To their utter surprise, a stray dog came from nowhere and fled with the severed hand in its mouth.
She was immediately rushed to Bhawanipatna Hospital. As her condition deteriorated due to excess blood loss, doctors referred her to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science And Research, Burla.
She is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
