Bhubaneswar: A minor sustained injuries after being hit by a pellet from an air gun during a practice session at Rasnapur village under the Mirgamunda area of Sambalpur Sadar police station limits on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Divyansh Purohit, has been detained by the police.
According to the child’s mother, Yashoda Kisan, the incident occurred while she and her child were returning a cooking gas cylinder to Purohit’s house.
“We were unaware that he was practising with the air gun. While going to return the cylinder, my child suddenly came in front of him and got injured,” she said.
The injured child was initially admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla. During the medical examination, doctors found an iron pellet lodged inside the child’s body. Considering the seriousness of the injury, he was referred to Shishu Bhawan in Cuttack for specialised treatment, where he is currently undergoing care.
Sambalpur Sadar police reached the spot after being informed and detained the accused. The air gun used in the incident has been seized, and further investigation is underway.
