Balasore: A disturbing incident has been reported from Nilgiri block in Balasore district, where a Class IV student was found chained by the leg inside a government school hostel. A video showing the child with an iron shackle on their leg has circulated on social media, sparking widespread concern.

According to reports, Class IV student Malaya was allegedly tied with an iron chain by the school’s peon, Bhagwan Singh, at the Begunia Primary School. The incident is believed to have occurred due to the student’s regular mischief.

The matter came to the fore after assistant teacher Jitendra Parida, who has been accused of trying to tarnish the image of the school authorities, reportedly recorded the video and circulated it on social media.

The incident came to the notice of Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi, who directed the district administration to investigate the matter.

On information, the district administration launched an inquiry into the incident.

Meanwhile, the school’s headmaster, Raghunath Bugudai, has admitted that the incident is true. The assistant teacher has been intentionally causing disruptions and troubles at the school since joining.

Bugudai said he was absent from school as he was attending the Differently-Abled Fair at Sujangarh.

The school authorities are now trying to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
