Bhubaneswar: A woman sustained a bullet injury after an unidentified miscreant opened fire at her at Sarbahal area in Jharsuguda district on Friday night.
The victim has been identified as Biswabijayani Jena, wife of local transporter Dhirendra Maharana. Biswabijayani was standing on the veranda of her house when miscreants reportedly opened fire on her injuring her leg and fled the scene.
On hearing Biswabijayani’s screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and found her lying writhing in pain. She was initially admitted to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital and later shifted to Burla Medical College and Hospital for further treatment. Her condition is stated to be stable.
Upon being informed, Jharsuguda Town Police and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain the reason behind firing. However, the couple denied to have previous enmity.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police (SP) Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said, “We received the firing news around 9:30-10 pm and reached the spot. We came to know that the victim resides in Jharsuguda’s Sarabahal area though she is a resident of Sambalpur. She was shot in the right upper thigh and referred to Burla Medical College. Motive behind the attack is unclear; we’re investigating possible enmity.”
