Sambalpur: The miscreant, who hacked a police constable’s palm six days ago, today sustained critical injuries in police encounter in a forest near Burla in Sambalpur district.
The miscreant, identified as Kamalu Pradhan suffered bullet injuries on his right leg. He was shifted to Burla Hospital for treatment.
The encounter took place at Katapali forest where he hid himself after committing the crime. On a tip-off, police today raided the place. While police were trying to capture him, he attacked the police team.
“We got information that he hid himself in Katapali forest. A team led by Burla IIC raided the forest and tried to capture him. He attacked the police team with the sharp weapon which he used in hacking the constable. He repeatedly attacked the police team. Sub-inspector Debashis Khilar was also injured in the attack by Pradhan. In retaliation, IIC Anil Pradhan opened control fire at him in self-defence,” said Harishchandra Pandey, Additional SP.
Kamalu Pradhan is a driver by profession. He is always involved in violent scuffles in his village over petty issues, Pandey said.
On October 4, a police constable named Saroj Bhoi’s palm suffered extensive damage while Pradhan hacked him
Bhoi underwent major surgery at Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The constable was attacked after a police team reached Jharapali village following a clash.
