Kandhamal: The plight of migrant workers from Odisha seems to be unending. Angad Mallik, a youth from Dahl Paha village Baliguda police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, is the latest victim of such apathy and torture meted out to migrant workers from Odisha in other states.
According to reports, Angad was lured by his friend Ravi Sahani, a resident of Bhagmunda village in the district, to try his luck in Mumbai. Ravi offered Angad an employment opportunity in a Mumbai-based organisation and even sent him an advance of Rs 8,000.
With great hopes, Angad boarded a Mumbai-bound train to try his luck in the city of dreams. However, to his dismay, Angad did not find his friend Ravi after he reached Mumbai. Instead, some unidentified miscreants beat up Angad mercilessly and even amputated his both arms. Following this incident, Angad lay unconscious at the railway station till a team of Mumbai police came to his rescue and admitted him to a hospital with the help of some volunteers.
When he regained consciousness, Angad found himself on his hospital bed. Meanwhile, the Mumbai police informed his family about the unfortunate incident and asked them to visit Mumbai to take Angad home. On June 23, Angad’s family members reached Mumbai and brought him home to Dahl Paha.
A case has been registered at the Baliguda police station in connection with Angad’s plight in Mumbai. The police are investigating the matter, but Angad is yet to get justice. On the other hand, he continues to relive his nightmarish experience in Mumbai.
