Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants reportedly looted gold and silver jewellery and cash from the newly-constructed Ram Temple on the Giri-Govardhan hill at Fategarh in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Tuesday night.
The theft was discovered when the temple priest reached the temple for the morning rituals. He was shocked to find the temple’s main door open and the donation box broken and emptied.
According to reports, miscreants broke open the main door and looted the contents of the donation box breaking its lock. It is estimated that the miscreants decamped with Rs 8 lakh cash and gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 15 lakh.
On being informed by the temple committee, the local police have initiated an investigation into the theft. The police have detained two persons for interrogation in this connection.
The Ram Temple at Fategarh was inaugurated on January 22 – the day when the consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir was held in Ayodhya.
Miscreants decamped with Rs 1 lakh from donation box of Panchalingeswar temple in Balasore district in the wee hours of Wednesday. Panchalingeswar Trust Board Manager filed a complaint with Nilagiri police in this regard. Acting on the complaint, police started an investigation into it.
