Boudh: In a disturbing trend, miscreants have adopted a new technique to loot valuables and ornaments from the gullible victims. Recently, they targeted a doctor’s house, knocking on the door and claiming to need medical attention. However, their true intentions were soon revealed as they threatened the doctor and his family with dire consequences, before making off with valuable ornaments and cash.
The incident occurred in Kirasira village under Manamunda police station in Boudh district. Of late, miscreants targeted Surendra Mohanty, an orthopaedic doctor.
As per the report, the value of the looted items is estimated to be around 5 lakh rupees.
According to sources, the incident took place last night around 12:45 when the two miscreants knocked on the door of Mohanty’s house, claiming that one of them had got his hand fractured and needed treatment.
When Mohnaty opened the door, the miscreants are reported to have tied his hands and mouth and taken him away from the house. Then, they entered the house and threatened Mohanty’s wife showing armed weapons before decamping with valuables worth Rs 5 lakh.
Based on a complaint filed by Mohanty, Manamunda police registered a case in this connection and launched a manhunt to arrest the criminals.
Mohanty’s wife Tuna said, “Four miscreants knocked on the door around 12.30 seeking immediate treatment. As my husband opened the door, the miscreants tied his hands and legs, warped his mouth and took him away from the house. Later, they held me at knifepoint and looted ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh, Rs 15,000 cash and two mobile phones.”
