Rourkela: Twenty four hours after she had gone missing from the SOS Children’s Village in Rourkela, the minor girl who was allegedly raped by cops at Biramitrapur police station and forced to undergo an abortion was located by some villagers at Jhunmur in Birmitrapur on Saturday evening.
After sighting her, the villagers informed her family members who reported the matter to the SOS Children’s Village authorities. Following which the authorities along with Chhend Police left for Birmitrapur to bring her back, informed Sundargarh Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Member Rama Chandra Behera.
Reportedly, the minor girl had been repeatedly raped by former Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Birmitrapur Police Station, Anand Chandra Majhi, and others over a period of four months. She was over eight months pregnant when her foetus was forcefully aborted on June 15.
She was later sent to the Childline shelter home where she developed health complications and was treated at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) from June 20 to 22. The matter came to the fore after the girl’s condition worsened.
Odisha DGP Abhay had handed over the Rape and POCSO Act case to Crime Branch on June 30 to investigate the case. The Crime Branch has already arrested former Inspector Majhi, doctor Debasish Ghosh, who carried out the abortion, and Home Guard Guruchan Farika, who worked as a driver at the police station.
The girl was housed at the SOS Children’s Village in Rourkela from where she had gone missing on Friday. The incident came to light after a complaint in this regard was lodged at Chhend Police Station.
As FIR has already been lodged, police have to record statement of the rescued minor girl and produce her before the CWC and magistrate. Following which, she will be handed over to CWC again which will decide her place of stay, said sources.
