Sonepur/Boudh: A child who had gone missing since 2016 was rescued by the Child Welfare Committee after six years.
The incident has been reported from Manamunda area of Boudh district. The rescued child is 7-year-old now.
According to reports, the child had gone missing from his mentally-challenged mother in Manamunda area in 2016. The matter had also drawn the attention of the media during the time following which CWC had lodged a complaint with the police.
The child remained untraced since then.
Police on Friday traced the kid to the home of the relative of a staff nurse of Manamunda health centre.
Nurse Basanti Sahoo allegedly had stolen the boy and gave her sister to take care of him.
Two days ago, Basanti had a quarrel with her husband Rajiv Naik. Irate Rajiv informed the CWC regarding the child missing.
On being informed, police rescued the child from the house of Basanti’s sister.
“Police rescued the child and produced before us. We will investigate whether the case filed by the District Child Welfare Committee in 2016 is associated with it. We will try to trace the real parents of the child. If the parents of the child are found, we would hand over him to them. Otherwise, further action will be taken as per government guidelines,” said Damodar Sahu, chairman of District child welfare committee.
The kid has been kept in child care institution, Sahu added.
