Bhubaneswar: Thakurmunda police on Monday recovered the body of a youth who had gone missing on Sunday while bathing in Baitarini river during his picnic trip to Bhimkund.
Identified as Nityananda Das’ son Biswajit of Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur district, the deceased was a diploma holder and employed in a vehicle showroom in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, Biswajit had gone to Bimkhund along with 17 other youths to enjoy a picnic on Sunday morning. Around noon, the youths went for a bath in the river. Unfortunately, his feet slipped while bathing. He was immediately swept away into deep water by a strong current.
When Biswajit did not come out of the river after a long time, his friends sought the help of the locals.
Upon being informed, police along with Fire services personnel launched a search operation at Sana Kunda to trace the missing youth. But they had not found his body till evening and called off the search.
However, the youth was found floating in the gorge on Monday morning.
The ODRAF team with the help of police retrieved the body in the presence of Thakurmunda Block Development Officer and Tehsildar. Police later handed over his body to family members after post-mortem.
