Bhubaneswar: The driver of the state government-run ‘Mo Bus’ which caused an accident killing a minor girl near Nandankanan Zoo, has been arrested after a complaint was filed by the mother of the deceased.
Nandankanan police arrested the driver, Nrusingha Sethy and also seized the bus involved in the accident. Sethy has been forwarded to court.
Earlier in the day, a 12-year-old girl was killed after a ‘Mo Bus’ hit the girl’s bicycle on the Patia-Nandankanan Zoo road. Local people blocked the road for more than two hour to protest against the accident. The police rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesters.
Irate locals demanded the construction of rumble strips so that vehicles could cross the junction carefully. They also demanded adequate compensation for the kin of the victim.
An official of Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), which is running the ‘Mo Bus’ service, said they have arranged Rs 1 lakh compensation for the next of kin of the deceased girl.
