Sundargarh: Unruly villagers stripped eight workers from Murshidabad in West Bengal in public, thrashed and made them walk with hands tied in rope over alleged misdemeanor towards a woman in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Thursday.
The shameful incident was reported from Mission Road under Sundargarh Town police limits.
According to reports, trouble started after a woman accused one of the workers of breaking into her home and misbehaving with her. Soon, members of her community raided the residence of the migratory workers from Bengal and thrashed them brutally. All the eight workers residing together in the locality were forced to strip in public and later paraded after tying them with ropes.
On being informed, police reached the spot and tried to disperse the angry crowd. However, they were also not spared as the crowd attacked them too. The police, nevertheless, succeeded in dispersing the mob and brought the workers to the police station. The worker who was accused of misbehaving with a woman has been detained.
Later, the woman registered a complaint in this regard at the Sundargarh Town police station.
