Bhubaneswar: Enumerators and supervisors are using a mobile phone application (mobile app) for pretesting in three places in the State as part of the preparatory exercise for Census 2021, said an official.
“We plan to undertake census work for 2021 Census by using a mobile phone application (mobile app),” revealed Pravakar Barad, Joint Director, Directorate of Census Operations here.
Barad said that the pretesting exercise is being undertaken in Pattamundai tehsil of Kendrapara, ward no.15 of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Puintala tehsil of Bolangir district.
“Enumerators, supervisors engaged in the field operations are entering details of households after authentication using an android application (Census App) on a smart phone which can be downloaded from the playstore,” he explained.
The Joint Director said that as data would be directly uploaded to the server through the app which would save a lot of data processing time.
However, Barad was cautious while commenting on the success of enumeration of data using the mobile app.
“Since it’s in the testing stage we can only tell about its success after teachers and other government officials are engaged by us for the Census operations,” he clarified with caution.
