Mobile Phone Behind Road Mishap? 2 Killed, 5 Injured

**Dhenkanal: ** : Two persons were killed and five others critically injured when a speeding passenger bus rammed into a stationary truck on National Highway 55 at Gudiakateni in Dhenkanal district this morning.

Notably, the truck was laden with coal and was parked in the middle of the road. The accident might have been caused due to the negligence of the driver compounded with dense fog resulting in poor visiblitiy.

“The accident occurred at aroud 2:45 a.m when we were all asleep. The driver was continuously on his mobile phone talking to someone. He tried to overtake the truck but might have done so carelessly which resulted in this collision,” according to Ashok Lenka, one of the injured passengers who was travelling in that ill-fated bus.

According to sources, the bus named Sai Sushree was travelling from Bolangir to Bhubaneswar carrying around 40 passengers. The driver fled the area following the mishap.

The critically injured passengers were rushed to the district headquarters hospital. Two of the injured are referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.

The police have started its investigation and the identities of the two deceased are yet to be ascertained.

Few months back, there was major bus accidents in Angul and Athmalik which claimed several lives and left many more injured. Notably, the drivers were allegedly talking on their mobile phones while driving the vehicle.
