Monsoon Advances To South Andaman Sea, Rain/ Thundershower Warning In Several Odisha Dists

Bhubaneswar: On Sunday, the Southwest Monsoon advanced into some parts of Maldives and the Comorin area and some parts of the South Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands, and South Andaman Sea. A low-pressure area will likely form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around Wednesday. It will likely move northeastwards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal around Friday.

Meanwhile, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued yellow alerts for rain and thundershowers in several Odisha districts for the next five days. At the same time hot and humid weather conditions will prevail in many districts, it added.

Weather forecast and warning for districts of Odisha:

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 20.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places in south Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, and Bhadrak, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada.

Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places in south Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal.

Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 22.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places in north interior Odisha, Jajpur, and Cuttack and one or two places in Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Heatwave conditions are very likely to occur in one or two places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 22.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 23.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places in north Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED):  Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Heatwave conditions are very likely to occur at one or two places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, and Jharsuguda.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada.

Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 24.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur in a few places in south Odisha and one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and  Malkangiri. Heatwave conditions are very likely to occur in one or two places in Nuapada, Bolangir, and Bargarh.
