Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday announced further advancement of the southwest monsoon across parts of Odisha, with scattered rainfall recorded in several districts and warnings of hot, humid conditions and thunderstorms over the next few days.
According to the midday bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the northern limit of the monsoon now extends through Bhawanipatna and Puri in Odisha, marking significant progress into the interior and coastal regions.
Light to moderate rainfall was observed at isolated locations in 12 districts, including Khurda, Balasore, Sambalpur, and Rayagada.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for the next three days, alerting the public to potential thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) in multiple districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Khurda.
Simultaneously, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist over districts such as Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Jagatsinghpur. Heatwave conditions are likely at isolated locations in Balasore, Puri, and Bhadrak between June 5 and 7.
In its forecast for Bhubaneswar for the next 24 hours, the IMD has predicted a partly cloudy sky with a maximum and minimum temperature of around 39°C and 25°C, respectively.
