Bhubaneswar: A total of 1,05,444 youths were given appointment letters at different job fairs in Odisha during the last five years, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain told in the Assembly on Friday.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Kadraka Appala Swamy, Swain said district-level job fairs are being organised by the State Skill Development Authority to generate more employment opportunities. During the last five years between 2019-20 and 2023-24, 226 job fairs were conducted in the state, attracting 2,53,216 participants. Of these participants, 1,05,444 received appointment letters.
A total of Rs 3,80,10,101 was spent in organising these job fairs, Swain said.
The minister informed that during the past five years between 2019-20 and 2023-24, 36,329 men and women were provided training under the Placement-Linked Training Programme by the Skill Development Authority. As many as 15,068 individuals secured employment after their training.
Additionally, under the Chief Minister’s Employment Generation Programme, the Odisha government trained a total of 18,42,067 youths over the past 10 years, making them employable and self-reliant, the minister added.
