Koraput: The Semiliguda police here on Monday arrested two persons on charges of smuggling sandalwood from Odisha. The accused, identified as Abdul Rehman and K Omar are residents of Kasargod district in Kerala.
According to the police, they were smuggling the sandalwood from Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to Kerala through Raipur. The miscreants had made special compartments in the vehicle they were using to transport sandalwood.
The expensive sandalwood was exported from the Nandpur forest of Koraput district and Araku in Andhra Pradesh to Kerala. On the basis of a tip-off, Semiliguda police mounted surveillance and nabbed the accused.
A case was registered and the accused were booked and forwarded to the court today.
