More Than 100 Arrested By Puri Police For Extortion & Drug Peddling In March

Puri: The district police have arrested 111 persons on charges of extortion and drug peddling during a special drive that was undertaken in March. SP Kanwar Vishal Singh said the drive was carried out in Puri City during which total 14 cases were registered against the extortionists and 56 antisocials were arrested.

Similarly, 55 persons allegedly involved in drug peddling were booked in 15 cases and forwarded to the court during the last month.

Briefing about the crime control scenario in Puri, Singh said, that four persons were arrested in the case of assault of a ‘Tanka Torani’ seller near North Gate of Jagannath Temple. The case in this matter was registered on March 31. The accused have been booked under Sections 341, 326, 307, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and forwarded to the court.

The district police have been successful in busting a chain-snatching racket with the arrest of seven persons.

“A special team led by Town police station IIC to nab the miscreants who were active in Baliapanda, Sea Beach and Singhadwar areas of the city. Seven members of this gang have been arrested and 17 mobile phones were recovered by the special team,” Singh added.
