**Bhubaneswar**: The last few days has seen a number of sex videos and obscene photographs going viral on social media, posing a start of a dangerous trend amongst the youngsters.
Odisha woke up with another video from Keonjhar district in which a young girl was seen to be stripped off of her clothes forcibly by some who had filmed the whole act. It is said to have filmed around 10 months back.
Sadly, a photograph showing ‘private moment’ of a student couple also surfaced on social media today. The Baripada police was quick in action and arrested a person.
These viral clippings have come closely on heels of a viral video from Mayurbhanj in which a girl was asked to undress in a dark alley and was filmed. The police has arrested two persons after the father of the victim girl filed a complaint. Surprisingly, this video of the minor girl was made around 6 months back.
“The surfacing of such videos are very shameful and unfortunate scenario for all of us . If a girl cannot feel safe to roam around in a park or sit somewhere even after 70 years of independence, then it is really disheartening. The viral videos are criminal case and infringe the fundamental rights of the girls. It is true that the cyber cell of police is able to nab some of the accused persons but to send a strong message to such miscreants, an exemplary punishment should be meted out to them,” opined Sujata Das, a social activist.
Commissioner of Police appealed the media to be more responsible while reporting such cases.
“We have to be sensitive regarding these cases ( viral videos) and need to know the pros and cons of anything we post on it. Media plays an important role. They should act responsibly and should report incidents only after proper verification. Both mainstream media and social media are very significant . No one has any idea as to where the post on social media will reach. It reaches out to millions. It can make or destroy the life of people,” he said.
