Jagatsinghpur/Bhubaneswar: Mortal remains of former Minister Bishnu Das arrived in his home town in Jagatsinghpur ahead of last rites. He passed away yesterday at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after complaining of uneasiness.
Condolences poured in for the 66-year-old former BJD leader from across the party lines.
Das’ mortal remains were brought to the Odisha Assembly today morning. Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro along with several leaders came teary-eyed to pay their last respects to the six-time MLA from Tirtol.
Bishnu Charan Das’ contribution to the development of Jagatsinghpur region was exemplary, CM Naveen Patnaik had said yesterday. He had dedicated his life for the upliftment of the poor, backward classes and the distressed.
Das was the School and Mass Education Minister in the Naveen Patnaik Cabinet of 2006. He was elected as Rajya Sabha member in 2016. Later in 2017, he resigned from Rajya Sabha after being appointed as deputy chairman of Odisha State Planning Board. In 2019 general elections, Das successfully contested from Tirtol Assembly segment.
