Puri: Mortal remains of the legendary musician, singer, lyricist, writer, and columnist Prafulla Kar was consigned to flames at the Swarga Dwara crematorium here today.
On arrival of Kar’s body in Puri from Bhubaneswar, it was taken in a procession through Bada Danda (Grand Road) to Swarga Dwara where the cremation took place at about 4.50 PM with full State honours. The guard of honour was presented by the Puri district administration.
Kar’s eldest son Mahadeepa Kar lit the funeral pyre.
Ministers Pratap Jena, Samir Ranjan Dash, and Deputy Chairman State Planning Board Sanjay Das Burma were present on behalf of the State government at the time of the funeral and offered their tributes.
Puri MLA Jayant Sarangi and former MP Tathagata Satpathy were among others who also offered their last tributes to the departed soul at the Swarga Dwara.
Puri Collector Samarth Verma, SP Kanwar Vishal Singh, Sub Collector Bhabataran Sahu from the district administration were present apart from the eminent singer’s younger son Mahaprasad Kar, daughter Sandhyadeepa Kar, daughters-in-law, grandsons, granddaughters, music lovers, eminent persons, intellectuals and members of the general public.
