Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) have arrested a murder accused who was on the run from the last 8 years. The accused Kishore Kumar Moharana alias Munu is a native of Khalrda under Cuttack Sadar police limits, and has criminal antecedents, the STF said.
Munu was wanted by the STF in connection with a murder case and was on the run since June, 2014. He was nabbed by a team of the STF on Thursday morning. A 9 mm pistol and 5 rounds of live ammunition have been recovered from his possession.
The STF have booked him in another case under the Arms Act for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. Munu is accused of firing at one Deepak Naik at Chandikhol market which led to the latter’s death.
He fled after committing the crime and was subsequently declared as an absconder. In this case another accused Sesadev Swain alias Buba has been convicted by the District and Sessions Judge, Jajpur while the trial of Munu is pending, the STF stated.
“The STF has launched a special drive against firearms since 2020. Over the last 2 years, the STF has seized 68 firearms and 146 rounds of live ammunitions,” an STF official said.
