Cuttack: A prisoner serving a sentence in a murder case allegedly escaped from the premises of Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre in Cuttack on Friday. The medical authorities have lodged a complaint in this regard at Manglabag Police Station.
The accused identified as Muku Santa (50) of Koraput had been earlier lodged at Koraput Jail. As he was suffering from cancer, he was shifted to Chowdwar Jail for treatment.
It has been a year since he was brought regularly to the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre for treatment of his throat cancer. On Thursday, he was discharged from the hospital and the jail staff escorting him decided to return to the jail on Friday after completing the paperwork.
At around 7.30 am on Friday, the jail staff had gone to Manglabag Police Station to attend to nature’s call. Santa came out of his ward and wandered around. As the jail staff did not come for a long time, he took advantage of this and escaped.
