Cuttack: A murder convict allegedly committed suicide in his house at Barahipur village under Mahanga police limits in Cuttack district a day before the end of his parole period.
Reportedly, the deceased identified as Rajkishore Nayak was serving a life sentence at Choudwar jail after being convicted for a murder in 2008. With the rise in Covid-19 cases, the State Government had released him on parole on May 8 this year.
His family members alleged that he did not want to return to the jail claiming he was being tortured there. Therefore, he committed suicide a day before the end of his parole period.
On getting information, police reached the spot and seized the body for postmortem. A probe has also been initiated to ascertain the exact cause behind his death.
