Boudh: A murder convict serving life imprisonment at the Special Sub-Jail in Odisha’s Boudh district was found hanging in the toilet of the jail on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Ravindra Meher of Jamaghati village under Baunsuni police limits. He was arrested on the charges of murdering two members of his family in 2015 and was awarded life imprisonment in 2018.
Officials of the Special Sub-Jail informed on Sunday that the prisoner committed suicide with the help of a gamcha (towel) inside the washroom of the prison. Ravindra was reportedly undergoing treatment for a mental ailment.
Ravindra went to the washroom after having his dinner on Saturday. Later, some inmates found him hanging inside the washroom and raised an alarm.
The prisoner’s body was recovered in the presence of a magistrate and sent for autopsy at the Boudh district headquarters hospital (DHH).
