Bhubaneswar: In a murderous attack, a youth allegedly hacked an elderly man to death and critically injured two others who went to save the elderly man in Hitaramana village of Sailo Panchayat under Tirtol police station limits in Jagatsinghpur district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Binod Das, while the critically injured are Janaki Biswal and Bishnu Charap Palei. The accused has been identified as Subash Biswal.

All four are residents of Hitaramana village.

While the precise reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the violence is a fall-out of a family dispute.

According to reports, Subash got inebriated on Wednesday morning and attacked Binod with an axe under the influence of liquor. When Janaki and Bishnu rushed to rescue Binod, they were also attacked with the axe, injuring them critically. Binod died on the spot, while the victims were rushed to Manijangha Community Health Centre.

Soon after the attack, Subash managed to flee the spot.

On being informed, Tritol police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. However, the police have yet to nab Subhash.

Meanwhile, the incident triggered tension in the village.
