Murshidabad Violence: Jharsuguda Police Arrest 2 Key Accused, Hand Them Over To West Bengal STF

Jharsuguda: In a significant breakthrough in the Murshidabad double murder case, Jharsuguda police on Monday arrested two key accused and handed them over to the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF).

The arrested persons have been identified as Bani Israel (24) and Sefaul Haque, both sons of Jiaul Haque from Sulitala village under Samserganj police station in Murshidabad district, West Bengal.

They are prime suspects in the murder of Haragobindo Das (72) and his son Chandan Das (40), which occurred on April 1, 2025. The case was registered as Samserganj PS Case No. 210/25 under Section 103/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to an official press release, the West Bengal STF, acting on intelligence inputs, arrived in Jharsuguda and sought assistance from Banharpali Police. Raids were conducted across several locations under the jurisdiction of Bandhabahal Outpost.

During the operation, the two suspects attempted to escape. The police fired four warning shots in the air, ultimately leading to their successful apprehension.

A country-made pistol loaded with two 7.62 mm live rounds was recovered from the possession of Bani Israel. Additionally, four empty 9 mm cartridge cases were seized from the spot.

In a further development, six more persons from Murshidabad were detained during follow-up raids in the Bandhabahal area. They are believed to be linked to the larger network behind the Murshidabad violence.

The six detained persons have been identified as:

  • Babul Sk (24), son of Asraful Sk, Sulitala village
  • Abdul Khalek (24), son of Firajuddin Sk, Sulitala village
  • Saba Karim (25), son of Tyagi Haque, Sulitala village
  • Roni Sk (23), son of Gul Mohammad Sk, Dakhin Antadepa village
  • Manarul Sk (54), son of Late Afzal Sk, Murshidabad
  • Azfarul Sk (21), son of Harun Sk, Samserganj village

All six detainees are residents under the jurisdiction of Samserganj police station.

Speaking at a press conference, Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas said, “During the raids, we found six more residents of Murshidabad who we suspect may also be involved in the case. They have been detained and handed over to the West Bengal STF for further legal action.”

The investigation remains ongoing, with further arrests and developments expected.
