Bhubaneswar: A mutilated carcass of an elephant was recovered from the Jagga Behera Tholi Reserve Forest near Nijigarh under Baramba Range in Cuttack district. Baramba ranger Sitaram Sabar informed about the death of a 15-year-old tusker.
Forester and Elephant Squad spotted the carcass during patrolling on Friday. From circumstantial evidence, it appears that the tusker died five to eight days ago.
The reason of the death remains unclear. Baramba veterinary Medical Officer reached the spot and started the post-mortem. The tusks of the animal were extracted and seized by the forest department.
It is suspected that the pachyderm was ill and died in the absence of proper medical care.
