Berhampur: Police on Saturday detained a youth over the alleged rape and murder of a young woman under Golanthra police limits of the city late on Friday night.
“A case has been reported in Golanthara police station limits. The mother of the deceased woman has reported that her daughter has been raped and murdered. We have detained her boyfriend and he is being quizzed by the police,” informed Saravana Vivek M, SP, Berhampur.
The Berhampur SP said that prima facie it appears that the young woman and her boyfriend were known to each other for more than a year through social media.
“Yesterday evening they checked in into a hotel near Haladiapadar. She was taken to the hospital as she got sick. At the hospital she was declared ‘brought dead’. Then her family was informed, on reaching here they lodged the report. On the basis of the report we have completed inquest. For postmortem we have informed the team of doctors,” the SP said.
The reason of the young woman’s death will be known from the postmortem report, he clarified.
