Bargarh: A new-wed woman’s death at her in-laws’ place at Lahangir village under Jagdalpur police station in Bargarh district has been shrouded in mystery. The deceased, Pratima Bariha, had been married for just 35 days before her untimely death.

According to reports, the deceased, 25-year-old Pratima, was married to Dhruv, son of Gunanidhi Bentaka, on March 26. Pratima’s family had given sufficient dowry during the wedding, but her in-laws allegedly harassed her for more dowry after the marriage.

The girl had gone to her in-laws’ house from her parental home on Wednesday, and her family received news of her death around 1 pm on Friday. While Pratima’s brother accused her in-laws of killing her over dowry demands, her brother-in-law claimed it was a case of suicide, said sources.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and detained the deceased’s husband to unravel the reasons surrounding Pratima’s death.
