Jharsuguda: The Crime Branch(CB) police investigating deceased Health Minister Naba Das murder case today conducted crime scene recreation at Gandhi Chowk of Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda district amid tight security.
Dismissed Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of police Gopal Krishna Das, who is the prime accused in the case, the car which the deceased Minister was riding on the day of the incident and the one that was following it were brought to the spot for crime scene recreation.
Gopal Krishna in front of Crime Branch officials gave a demonstration of how he had managed to enter the crowd, pull out his pistol and fire at Minister Naba Das. He also explained how he was overpowered, etc. The crime scene recreation took around one hour.
The entire proceedings of the crime scene recreation were recorded by the Crime Branch using drone camera.
The second phase four-day remand of the accused ends tomorrow.
A four-member team of neuropsychiatrists from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru has arrived here earlier in the day today to examine the mental condition of Gopal Krishna.
The team is likely to study the mind and map the socio-psychological behaviour of the accused.
It is pertinent to mention here that soon after the Minister was shot at by Gopal Krishna, the latter’s wife had told mediapersons that her husband was undergoing treatment for bipolar affective disorder.
The team will examine Gopal Krishna to ascertain whether he suffers from bipolar disorder or any other psychiatric ailment apart from verifying his previous history of the disease.
Minister Naba Das was murdered in broad daylight on January 29, when he was in Brajarajnagar’s Gandhi Chowk to attend a party programme. He was allegedly shot at from point blank range by Gopal Krishna who was on traffic control duty.
The Minister was initially rushed to the district headquarters hospital here and was airlifted from Jharsuguda in a critical condition.
He succumbed to his injuries in the evening on the same day at Apollo Hospitals in Bhubaneswar while undergoing treatment. The bullet fired by Gopal Krishna had pierced through the heart and lung of the Minister and exited.
