Nabarangpur: A man was arrested on Thursday for murdering his 20-day-old son three days back and dumping his body into a nullah, at Gaibandha village under Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district, from where it was recovered today.
Reportedly, the accused identified as Basudeb Jani of the village had a second marriage with Kamae Pujari of Baghadangari village and had a daughter from his first marriage. Kamae was staying with Basudeb at his house in Gaibandha and had given birth to a son on June 10.
Both Basudeb and Kamae had regular quarrels from the day of marriage and after one such argument on June 29, he left the house with his 20-day-old son and did not return back. After searching for him at all possible places, Kamae filed a complaint at Jharigaon Police Station.
Based on the complaint, a team led by Jharigaon Police Station IIC Umesh Sahu conducted raids at various places and nabbed Basudeb. During interrogation, he revealed that he murdered the child by strangling him with a towel and dumped his body in the nullah by tying him with a rock.
The decomposed body of the infant was recovered today from the scene in the presence of Jharigaon Tehsildar.
