Nabarangpur: A pregnant woman of Diuduguda hamlet of Belajhari village under Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district had to be carried on a jugaad type ‘cycle ambulance’ for nearly one and half km as the ambulance under 102 Ambulance service could not reach her house because of the muddied road.
According to reports, Raila Santa, wife of Chaitanya Santa of Diuduguda hamlet developed labour pain at around 4 AM today. Her family members informed the local ASHA worker who called up 102 ambulance services.
An ambulance of the 102 Ambulance Service which arrived at around 10 AM could not reach Raila’s house as the road was muddy.
Left with little option, the villagers in the true sense of Indian ‘jugaad’ style developed a cycle ambulance-(a cot tied to two bicycles with a polythene sheet to provide cover against rain) and carried the woman in labour to reach the ambulance which was waiting at a distance of around one and a half km.
The pregnant woman was shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Jharigaon.
