Puri: National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), on Wednesday dedicated five Battery Operated Vehicles (BOV) for pilgrims visiting the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri and also gifted one PCR van to Puri Police.
The vehicles were flagged off by Ministry of Mines Additional Secretary K. Rajeswara Rao in presence of NALCO CMD Dr Tapan Kumar Chand and other dignitaries.
Addressing media persons, Dr Chand said that as NALCO is the only Navratna Company headquartered in Odisha, it is carrying out small works in Puri as per its capacity. He hopes that Puri will establish itself as an international tourist destination and as the spiritual Capital of India.
Dr Chand said that while the PCR van will help the police to reach at a particular destination on time, the electric vehicles will help pilgrims to commute from Jagannath Ballav Matha to the Jagannath Temple.
Rao said that as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR), NALCO is doing extremely good job in Puri, which is an iconic city also, with the vehicles, lighting arrangements and improvements.
He further said that with growth in demands from people, NALCO perhaps will be able to accomodate the requirements of the local government.
