**Cuttack:** Following incessant rains in the upstream of several tributaries of Mahanadi, water level is on a continuous rise. Looking at the danger level, all the gates of Naraj Barrage have been partially opened on Monday.
Naraj Barrage Sub-Division Junior Engineer Deb Das informed, “At present, 2, 05,300 cusecs of water is flowing into the Hirakud Dam while 370 cusecs of water is being released. The gates of the Hirakud Dam are scheduled to open tomorrow (July 24).
In Munduli, 6, 83,000 cusecs of water has been released while at Naraj, the water flowing out is 3, 43,247 cusecs. All the gates of Naraj Barrage have been opened partially and there is no panic situation”.
He further added that the water level is increasing in Naraj but at the upstream level it has started decreasing. The water that is flowing over here is of small rivers like Tel River and the 600 mm rain water of Sambalpur district. The water is flowing from Mundali to Naraj to Kathajodi as well as Mahanadi to Jobra Barrage as Mahanadi’s distributory is Kathajodi.
As per latest reports, about 7.11 lakh cusecs of water is flowing at Munduli and the residents of low-lying areas have been put on alert, informed Flood Control Cell Chief Engineer.
