Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance today arrested Inspector-In-Charge of Narasinghpur police station Alekh Gardia for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 20,000.
Gardia was allegedly caught red handed by Vigilance officials while taking bribe from a complainant in order to effect arrest of accused persons involved in a SC & ST Act case on his complaint in Narsinghpur police station in September 2021.
Based on the complaint, Vigilance laid a trap today in which accused Gardia was caught by Vigilance officials inside his office chamber while demanding and accepting bribe) of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.
A press note issued by the Vigilance stated that the entire bribe money was recovered from possession of Gardia and seized in presence of witnesses.
Both hands wash of Gardia gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, Vigilance launched simultaneous searches on the residential house of Gardia at Bhandarimala under Jujumara police station limits in Sambalpur district, triple storeyed building at Harishankar Nagar under Dhanupali police limits in Sambalpur district and his office room at Narsinghpur police station.
He has been arrested and is being forwarded to the Court, the press note said.
The Vigilance has registered a case against Gardia under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 at Vigilance police station Cuttack and is under investigation.
