Rayagada: A major mishap was averted in Rayagada district today when a police vehicle’s brakes failed, sending it crashing into a group of protesting labour activists at Siriguda Square on the outskirts of the district.
The incident, which occurred during a Bharat Bandh protest, sparked panic among the crowd, but fortunately, no one was injured. The vehicle suddenly rolled forward, running over chairs arranged for labour leaders and causing significant damage.
However, the situation was brought under control after Rayagada SDPO Gaurahari Sahu and IIC Prasanna Behera intervened and held discussions with the protesters.
Meanwhile, protesters blocked roads at Kapilas Square and Siriguda Square, stopping traffic on NH 326 between Rayagada-Koraput and Rayagada-Brahmapur. This stranded hundreds of trucks and buses, causing big traffic jams.
