Bhubaneswar: The two-day National Indoor Athletics Championship is set to begin on March 24 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Organized by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) in collaboration with the State Sports and Youth Services Department, the championship will feature 36 events across men’s, women’s, and under-20 categories.
Notably, the AFI has announced the introduction of indoor competitions for the first time in the country, focusing on expanding the domestic athletics ecosystem.
AFI president Bahadur Singh Sagoo confirmed that the National Indoor Championships would be part of the 2026 domestic season. The indoor meet will feature key events such as the pole vault and heptathlon, showcasing India’s readiness to embrace international standards in athletics infrastructure. Bhubaneswar’s world-class indoor facility at Kalinga Stadium will serve as the venue for this pioneering edition.
Athletes from various states and union territories will participate in events such as 60m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
The Kalinga Stadium, India’s first indoor athletics centre, is gearing up to host this prestigious event, which may lead to hosting the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship in 2028.The championship will include events like shot put, with men’s and women’s categories competing in 60m, 400m, 800m, 3000m, high jump, long jump, and more.
