Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the State Level Celebration of National Press Day-2020 today a webinar was held by the State I&PR Department on “Role of Media In Covid-19 Pandemic & Its Impact On Media”.
In his inaugural address, Odisha I&PR Minister Raghunandan Das said, “It was a challenging time for the media persons to report day-to-day developments during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is very saddening to mention here that a number of media persons sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the pandemic. I offer my deep sense of gratitude as well as homage to them all. “
He also said, “During the pandemic crisis, the media extended support to one and all. Media played a pivotal role in disseminating requisite information whenever released by the Union Home Ministry and the State authorities. The way media covered all the developments amid the pandemic, be it lockdown, shutdown, mass migration of labour force and people, Covid care centres, Covid hospitals, etc was very challenging.”
“Odisha has earned name and fame as a leading State in the country in tackling Covid situations. Media has played as a major stakeholder in this respect. Sufficient coverage by the media of all the steps taken by our Chief Minister from time to time amid the pandemic situation is laudable. Thus, the State Government and the people of Odisha will ever remain grateful to media for this important role played,” he stated.
He added, “During the lockdown and shutdown, the print media especially got adversely affected. However, the media has accepted it as a challenge and bouncing back to normalcy. Citizen journalism has grown up during the Corona crisis. The people have posted maximum news on social media. Also the media has introduced various uses of technology for news reporting. Hence, people have embraced digital media beyond expectations during the pandemic period.”
“Till the vaccine has not been invented and used en masse, media is expected to keep on lending its support to our fight against the Coronavirus. The State Government is sincerely taking steps for the benefits of the media fraternity. As per the announcement made by the Chief Minister, ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakh is being paid to the media martyrs during the pandemic. Even for the working journalists, the insurance cover is being renewed duly,” mentioned the I&PR Minister.
Prominent among others, the webinar was graced by Media Advisor to the State Government Manas Mangaraj, Odisha Review & Utkal Prasanga Lenin Mohanty, State I&PR Director Krupasindhu Mishra, I&PR Director (Technical) Niranjan Sethi and other dignitaries from various print, electronic and digital media.
