Bhubaneswar: The Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) Bhubaneswar Chapter, in collaboration with IIT Bhubaneswar, celebrated National Public Relations Day 2025 at the IIT Bhubaneswar campus on Monday.
The event featured deliberations by eminent speakers on the theme, “Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence: Role of Public Relations.”
In his address, Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, emphasized the critical role of AI in today’s world, stating, “Technology, especially AI, is only as ethical and effective as the intent behind its use. As custodians of communication, PR professionals carry a deep responsibility—not just to inform, but to influence ethically. The three pillars—communication, collaboration, and critical thinking—are not just academic ideals, but essential tools in ensuring AI is used with responsibility and purpose in the field of PR.” He called for the ethical use of AI innovations to ensure integrity in the communication process.
Rohit Dubey, Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., shared valuable insights as the expert speaker on the responsible use of AI in PR. He remarked, “AI in PR is an augmenter, not a replacer. It’s a productivity booster, a creative partner—a co-pilot, not an autopilot. Those who embrace AI find that it frees them from drudge work, enhancing their value rather than making them obsolete.” He further encouraged computer science students to collaborate with PR professionals, urging them to create India-centric PR tools ranging from media analytics to customized content generation. Dubey also pointed out that the PR tech space in India remains largely untapped, calling on students to take it up as a project or entrepreneurial venture.
Sudhi Ranjan Mishra, Chairman of PRSI Bhubaneswar Chapter, set the context of the event by highlighting the growing influence of social media. He said, “In today’s age of immense social media influence, the role and responsibilities of PR professionals have become significantly higher, especially in the fight against misinformation and fake news.”
Dr. Debi Prosad Dogra, Head of the Department of Computer Science Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar, spoke about the role of AI in various fields, including healthcare and public service. He stressed, “The advent of AI has accelerated development in many sectors, but using AI responsibly lies with both the users and the creators. AI model creators must be careful in disclosing the underlying facts and ethical considerations. IIT Bhubaneswar has launched initiatives to develop responsible and ethical AI systems for faster and safer national growth.”
Dharitri Satapathy, Public Relations Officer at IIT Bhubaneswar, gave a presentation on the role of Artificial Intelligence in Public Relations, addressing its challenges and ethical implications. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Secretary of the PRSI Bhubaneswar Chapter, concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
The event witnessed participation from Public Relations and Corporate Communication professionals, members of the PRSI Bhubaneswar Chapter, academicians, and students and faculty from IIT Bhubaneswar, who came together to commemorate National PR Day 2025.
