Bhubaneswar: With the start of the National Road Safety Month from Monday, Twin City Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi flagged off an awareness campaign in Bhubaneswar.
Talking to media, Sarangi said, “Every year, we used to observe Road Safety Week, but from this year we’ll be trying to observe for a month. The Central and State Governments realized that despite stringent traffic laws and fine amount increased, the people are not obeying it suo motu.”
“We’ll be on our concerted efforts to reach out to the masses in large number within this month-long campaign for creating awareness on the road safety norms and traffic rules,” he added.
“Most of the road accident fatalities have been recorded of the bike riders. Every day we’ll be having a specific theme and various social organizations, voluntary organizations have been allotted a day for that purpose with a theme so that they organize different programmes on the day. With the cooperation of the general public we’ll try to create more awareness on road safety,” said Sarangi.
It is worthwhile to mention that the National Road Safety Month is to be observed from today, 18th January, till 17th February to create awareness about road safety and reduce road accidents in India.
