**Bhubaneswar:** Odisha Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday hit back on the questions raised by BJP’s poster boy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s public meeting in Khurda on December 24.
Taking a dig at the Centre’s claims of success, the regional Satrap listed out nine areas in which the BJP-Government at Centre has failed people across the country as well as Odisha.
Addressing party workers on the occasion of BJD’s 21st Foundation Day, Patnaik focused on why regional parties across the country have started gaining public support.
Patnaik said, during demonetisation people were forced to banks and stand in long queues. They had to face a lot of trouble during this period. Besides, many villages in Odisha lack bank facilities. While the Centre has held many meetings and discussion, people are not able to avail bank services.
He further said though the Centre had announced Odisha will receive Rs 70,000 crore from auction of coal blocks, the State has only received Rs 370 crore in the last three years.
Lampooning the Centre’s crop insurance scheme, Patnaik said, farmers are not able to get on time and adequate compensation. It is only the private insurance companies which profited from it.
The BJP in its manifesto during 2014 election campaign had promised special category status for Odisha, 1.5 times hike in MSP and 33 per cent reservation for women, but nothing has been fulfilled since the last four and half years, Patnaik added.
He further pointed out the Centre’s apathy towards tribals stating the stopping of the funding for tribal areas. He said that the Central Government has stopped the SC/ST scholarship which has not been received by the students for the last two years.
Though LPG connections were provided to around 30 lakh households under Ujjwala Yojana, the prices were hiked to such an extent that none is refilling the cylinder. Similarly, the prices of petrol and diesel are the highest in Asia, said Patnaik.
He further said that Odisha had to go to court for Mahanadi and Polavaram. The coal royalty revision is due since April 2015. Though the decision can be taken within five minutes, it is still pending and in the meantime people of Odisha have lost thousands of crores.
Through Clean Energy Cess the Centre received Rs 21,000 crores but Odisha got zero. Companies were set up in Odisha which took minerals from the State. Mahanadi Coalfields is earning Rs 20,000 crore profit every year but Odisha received pollution.
Indian Railways is earning Rs 20,000 crores from Odisha, but its expenditure is only 2,000 crores. Odisha wants to know, stated Patnaik.
“We believe in deeds not words for which BJD has been a revolution now,” the BJD supremo reiterated taking head-on on the BJP.
