Cuttack: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday laid the foundation stone for Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research Hospital at the Sri Sri University campus here.
“We are into an era where our ancient wisdom coupled with modern technological prowess provides us the best of both the worlds”said Patnaik in his address speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony.
He added that with yoga, ayurveda, organic foods, clean and green environment, we are in the process of adopting a holistic approach to living.
The Chief Minister was of the view that ayurveda’s intrinsic link to wellness of body, mind and spirit has made it equally significant as that of modern medicine and added that its huge popularity in the West is indicative of its better future on the global landscape.
Patnaik thanked Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for his endeavour to set the ayurvedic medical college which will have a 300-bedded hospital attached to it.
He said: “Started in 2012, Sri Sri University has emerged as a centre of excellence in innovative education.”
Patnaik pointed out that since long Odisha governmenthas recognised Ayurveda, Unani and Homeopathy systems of medicine as viable complementing methods of healthcare and these have gained significant community acceptance.
“As many as 800 Ayurvedic clinics and five hospitals are functioning in the State. A new AYUSH hospital is also coming up in Dhenkanal district,”the Chief Minister informed.
He was of the opinion that growth of health institutions in the State would substantially improve wellness, provide better health services and promote health tourism and hoped that both public and private initiatives will go a long way in realising the dream of ‘Healthy Odisha, Happy Odisha’.
